On what is Lourdes Leon’s eighteenth birthday, one not only takes pause to reflect upon the incredibleness of Madonna having a daughter so old/young, but also how strange it must be to attend the same college your mother dropped out of. As part of the celebrity stable of children, Lola doesn’t really need to do anything to further her station in life as she’s already infinitely better off than most of us could ever hope to be.
Nonetheless, her co-ownership of a clothing line (called Material Girl, obviously), attendance at La Guardia High School and, now, the University of Michigan all reveal that Lola has nearly the same sort of world domination on her mind as her mother did circa the same age. The question is, will she be able to make the same kind of mark?
Living in the shadow of a parent who has left an indelible imprint on the entire pop culture paradigm must surely be intimidating. How does one measure up to that? Usually by not even bothering to try and simply Paris Hilton-ing it up well past the age of appropriateness. But Lola seems somehow ready to take on the challenge. Or at least willing. I suppose time will tell if all that Michigan drinking proves too time-consuming for other pursuits.
