Apart from the fact that the message of Britney Spears’ and Iggy Azalea’s “Pretty Girls” harkens back to a certain 1950s mentality of women, the video, too, left something to be desired. But, according to Azalea, the fault of the song’s commercial failure belongs to Spears for not promoting the single adequately.
Although Spears and Azalea took to the stage for a colorful performance of the track at the Billboard Music Awards back in May when it was first released, the single quickly fell from its not so top spot at number 29. Resultantly, Azalea claims that Spears’ head wasn’t in the game when it came to promotion. During a Twitter Q&A session (the source of all rivalries spawned), Azalea stated, “I would have enjoyed performing it a lot, I think it got off to a powerful start. Unfortunately, I’m just featured…”
This none too subtle dig at Spears’ presumed laziness in the art of hype was further compounded when Azalea later added, “I don’t have to suck the woman’s asshole 24/7 to be her friend, do I?” Spears, who has suffered enough criticism in her career to master the art of the comeback replied, “Can’t wait to get back to Vegas. So thankful I have shows the rest of the year to look forward to…” This being an obvious jibe at Azalea’s cancelled tour.
