No matter where you go or what you do, Taylor Swift is there to either welcome you to New York or dominate air time at awards shows. In fact, she might have grown an ego on par with her nemesis, Kanye West, as indicated by her acceptance speech for album of the year at last night’s 58th Annual Grammy Awards.
Its thinly veiled sense of self-love was faintly masked by Swift speaking for women everywhere (which hasn’t worked out so well for Hillary either) as she opened her speech with, “As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice…” Guess she must have really been expecting that win to bother with doing the research on if any other woman had accomplished such a feat (not that it’s a great surprise that no other female has, considering the notorious sexism of the music industry). The contrived nature of winning the Grammy on behalf of all slighted women is not only inauthentic (just take a look at Tori Kelly’s expression throughout Swift’s self-aggrandizement), but a cheap move for someone claiming to be a feminist. Using feminism as an outlet for your ego is always transparent. At least Kanye makes no bones about his (hear: “I love you like Kanye loves Kanye” lyric).
And so, apart from Swift using the gramophone-shaped award as her soapbox, there was Kendrick, Adele losing sound, Lady Gaga predictably making an uncomfortable David Bowie tribute and people hesitantly swaying to Lionel Richie (though that’s been happening since the 80s). So whether you like it or not, that leaves this year’s Grammys largely dominated by Swift’s wins, performance and seemingly matching prom dress theme with Selena Gomez.

Indeed, Miley immediately took control of the crowd by insisting, “Let’s take a shot every time Taylor Swift says something egotistical pretending it’s for the benefit of others.” […]
