Though Katy Perry might not have technically made the declaration, “Don’t be tryna double back, I already despise you/All that fake love you showin’ couldn’t even disguise you,” with her own mouth, the sentiment was nonetheless established by her cohort on “Swish Swish,” Nicki Minaj. And surely, the duo worked together to create these lyrics–or at least Perry looked at what Minaj came up with and gave her a vehement nod of approval.
And so, it’s a hair on the hypocritical side for Perry to suddenly start doing just what Minaj condemned of Taylor Swift by “doubling back” in the wake of Swift re-releasing her entire back catalogue on every major streaming service. Now all of the sudden, Perry wants to feign sweetness and good will with the insistence, “I forgive her and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from here. I think it’s actually like, I think it’s time. There are bigger fish to fry, and there are real problems in the world. You know what I’m saying?… There’s a lot of other things out there in the world that people need to be focused on, and I truly, like God bless her on her journey. God bless her. Honestly.”
Ah, such bullshit. Like all great feuds, this level of malice can never be quelled. And, naturally, the more one likes to reiterate that there’s no “bad blood,” the more it becomes apparent that that’s exactly what there is. The usual, “the lady doth protest too much” business. Which is precisely why Perry should have the courage of her convictions in sticking to her “diss track’s” guns. She don’t like Swift, and there’s no need to pretend to just because it all at once became convenient to her agenda to do so.
