The Kardashian-Jenner brood is no stranger to dressing like other celebrities for Halloween (see: Kylie Jenner’s version of Christina Aguilera from the “Dirrty” video)–after all, sponging off the backs of select famous people was how they got their foot in the door. And this year is no exception to proving the Kardashian rule that it’s not who you are, but who you want to be.
Though Madonna has always kept Kim K at arm’s length, even coming under a bit of fire for accusations of shade throwing for her impression of the reality star while promoting MDNA Skin on her latest Jimmy Fallon appearance, the Paris Hilton-user has often expressed a deep enough affection for the pop icon. For example, Kim featured a selfie of her and Madonna in her coffee table book, Selfish, along with a little story about how she once came into a possession of a box of Madonna’s unwanted things as an adolescent (living in Beverly Hills can be so advantageous sometimes).
And though the choice of Madonna as a Halloween costume was somewhat out of place amid one of her other picks, Aaliyah, the theme the sisters Kourtney and Kim are going for this year is: inspirational icons. Thusly, one can’t blame the duo for paying homage to the ultimate in pop royalty, Michael Jackson and Madonna, best manifested when the King and Queen were vaguely dating at one of the peaks of Madonna’s fame, when she was riding high on the success of “Vogue” and the Blond Ambition Tour.
Yet while Kourtney put in far more effort in her transformation (those dewy Michael curls aren’t easy to achieve), it’s Kim who got all the glory for doing what she does best: mimicking a person she could never be as artistically talented as. So even if this time-consuming version of playing dress up manages to get a reaction from Madonna, it takes a lot to impress la reine, which means, at best, Kim might get something of an upturned mouth corner mildly resembling a smile.
