What else would one expect from a video starring Nicki Minaj and Beyonce called “Feeling Myself” other than unbridled vanity? The visual narrative for the track has been long awaited, as it’s one of the most infectious, memorable collaborations on The Pinkprint, which seems to have ceased sparking discussion after the video for “Anaconda” was released.
Set in Coachella, for some reason (maybe a subtle dig at the narcissism of the Coachella Valley Arts & Music Festival?), Minaj and Bey get right into feeling themselves with tight-fitting tank tops and gyrating dance moves. Soon, Minaj and Bey are feeling each other in an inflatable pool and then find time to dance in a posh Palm Springs house featuring a conveniently placed Tidal poster. Meanwhile, Nicki starts cooking in the kitchen, then dancing in a “PERVERT” jersey.
Beyonce, too, gets her own separate dance sequence (what kind of narcissist would she be if she didn’t?). Wearing a bucket hat and sipping expensive alcohol from a tacky cup, Beyonce asserts her presence in the Coachella Valley. Tossed in are some kaleidoscope effects and an eating party of hamburgers in a bounce house for good random measure. It all ends with a Mardi Gras-esque party and a lot of cracked out facial expressions. So what does the video signify? You have to be feeling yourself to have this good of a time.
