The internet frenzy caused by the news of Twin Peaks being resuscitated after twenty-five years is only to be the beginning of the flurry of excitement and anticipation built up around a show that has received beyond legendary cult status.
While the details of the show’s plot are somewhat nebulous, what has already been ascertained for sure is that it will be taking place in the present day and Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) is going to be a part of the project. Moreover, David Lynch will be directing every episode (after a long stint of trying to stay away from doing so in any capacity–film or otherwise) and, according to co-creator Mark Frost, “the passage of 25 years will be an important element in the plot.” Curiouser and curiouser indeed.
While Twin Peaks fans cover many strata of obsession and are likely to be hoping for different resolutions out of the latest installment, only two things are definitive: some factions are going to be invariably disappointed (à la Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me) and others are just praying for a horticulturist origin story.
